OpenRouter

5 models built

OpenRouter, Inc. (US, founded 2023) is a model routing service — on OpenKey its house lineup isn't a model family in the usual sense but a set of routers that pick providers for you. The 5-model roster includes Auto Router (routes any request across providers, live since Nov 2023), a Free Models Router, and newer experiments like Fusion and Pareto Code Router. Rather than training its own weights, OpenRouter's product is the routing layer itself: send a request, let it decide which underlying model actually serves it. That makes this lineup less about picking 'the best model' and more about picking the right routing behavior for your use case.

Lineup

Start with Auto Router if you just want a request handled without picking a specific model yourself — it's the most established option, live since 2023, and supports the widest input range (text, image, file, audio, video). If cost is the priority, Free Models Router is the one true free option in this lineup, with a 200K context window and text+image input. Pareto Code Router and Fusion are newer additions (April and June 2026) aimed at code-routing and fusion-style multi-model tasks, with large context windows up to 2M tokens — worth testing if you're routing coding workloads specifically. Body Builder is still in beta with a smaller 128K context window; treat it as experimental.

Questions

What does OpenRouter pricing look like on OpenKey?
OpenRouter's models are routers, not fixed-price endpoints — actual cost depends on which underlying provider model handles your request. The one exception is Free Models Router, which is $0 input and $0 output. For the others (Auto Router, Fusion, Pareto Code Router, Body Builder), pricing passes through to whatever model gets routed to, plus OpenKey's flat 3% fee on the provider's list price.
Which OpenRouter model should I use if I want free access?
Free Models Router is the only free model in OpenRouter's 5-model lineup on OpenKey. It supports text+image input with a 200K context window and routes your request across free-tier provider models at no cost.
What's the newest OpenRouter model on OpenKey?
Fusion, created June 13, 2026, is the newest addition. It's a text-to-text router with a 1M-token context window. Pareto Code Router (April 2026, 2M context) and Body Builder beta (December 2025, 128K context) are the other recent additions rounding out the lineup.
